PETA Feathers Ruffled Over Pigeon Show

PETA Feathers Ruffled Over Pigeon Show

NEW YORK — An animal rights group wants New York prosecutors to investigate boxing legend Mike Tyson’s upcoming reality television show about pigeon racing.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals says the Brooklyn-based show is cruel to animals and its races could involve illegal gambling.

The show will follow Tyson as he competes in pigeon races. The former world heavyweight champion has raised pigeons all his life but is a racing rookie.

The show airs next year on Animal Planet. A spokeswoman says there have never been plans for wagering on the races. She says the pigeons will be “cherished and respected by their owners,” including Tyson.

PETA sent a letter dated March 18 to the Brooklyn district attorney’s office requesting an investigation.

District attorney spokesman Jonah Bruno says the office is looking into the allegations.

Just wait guys, you have no idea what the PETA organization can do to a working breed of animal. Before pigeons I have always kept American Pit Bull Terriers, used them as hunting and conformation show dogs (2nd generation dog man). It got so bad at our registry and shows; that PETA came to protest and been sending in undercover agents to try to get people talk about dogs pedigrees to arrest them for owning a fighting dog when all APBT can be traced back to fighting dogs. I love my dogs and pigeons, never hurt a dog or a pigeon and then they take pictures of my license plates on people vehicles at a dog show; are you serious is what I was think and laugh in our faces about it! I own two APBT and kept them out of the eye of the public, I don’t attend dog shows nor public places with my dogs except for the vet, I still hunt game with my dogs. It is only a matter of time before they ruin pigeon racing for me as well. I hate these people; Look up Floyd Boudreaux a old time dog man, PETA let 40 dogs die in a U Haul while they search his property for dogs that were used to fight and they found nothing, PETA killed 60 dogs without the F. Boudreaux being charged with anything and allow dogs to die on his property while they search. Not one dog got adopted out like the Micheal Vick, they just killed them. PETA and HSUS are unreal but there is hope, there is a organization that follows them and they are working really hard it. I pray that the pigeons are not affected the same way my breed of dogs are.

We are living in a difficult time in our country. Greed, corruption, obvious conspiracies, a real spiritual and patriotic laziness has overcome our once great Republic. On the right you get a taste of totalitarianism and a perverted mutation of what was a healthy capitalism once. On the left you get a form of communism sold out to the highest bidder, whether foreign or domestic, yes tax and spend, but worse the party system just isn’t providing for truth or justice. In this environment we have cancerous growth of the military machine at the leading edge of the empire as it invades and occupies for the benefit of the oil industry and cancerous growth of agencies and layers of public servants whose only job is to eliminate freedom and any expression of it. Go to hell Peta.

PETA, WHO PAYS THEIR SALERIES TO STIR UP ALL THE CRAP THAT THEY DO???
YES JUST PICK ON THE PIGEON. HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS SERVED IN THE MILITARY FROM THE FIRST, SECOND, AND KOREAN WAR, DELIVERING MESSAGES TO ALL OUR ALIES FROM BEHIND ENEMY LINES, BEING SHOT AT BY THE GERMAN ARMY.THESE HOMING PIGEONS WERE BRED BY PIGEON FLYERS THROUGHOUT THE USA, AND IF OUR MILLITARY REQUIRES ADDITIONAL PIGEONS WE WILL BE THEIR SUPPLY LINE.

SO PETA, PACK UP YOUR GEAR AND GET YOUR REARS DOWN TO THE PENTAGON IN WASHINGTON, DC AND EXPLAIN TO THEM WHY THEY SHOULD DISCONTINUE THEIR MESSAGE SERVICE.

THERE ARE OVER TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND PIGEON BERRDERS IN THIS COUNTRY READY TO BREED
PEDIGREED HOMER PIGEONS FOR USE IN THE MILIGARY IF NEEDED.

I have to watch everyday abuse to pigeons where I work. Injured birds are in plain view and left to die. dangerours poisons are place on ledges to kill or in the case of the sticky glue, to leave birds struggle to even walk, waiting for the slow death to come.
I will sincerelly think that pigeon racing show will bring awearness and humanity to viewrs.

    What now?
I respect organizations that protect their cause. We are animal and bird lovers ourselves, but come on…..Pigeons have a natural homing ability, they are loved by their owners, they have a safe shelter to come home to and guaranteed feed. What’s the problem? When in flight our pigeons face the same dangers that any other bird faces.
I was so hoping that Mike Tyson’s effort to bring out our sport in the open was going to be one without issue.

What is this FREE COUNTRY comming to?? People have raced pigeons fro centuries and now all of a sudden this PETA has nothing better to do. I personally think it’s only because Tyson is a celebrity and they want attention.

I sent an objection to PETA..

I agree with the posting above by Andy. They are “grand standing” and they want attention. But really, I think they have messed up minds.

If they had their way, people wouldn’t even be able to put a saddle on a horse unless the horse said it was OK.

They don’t want anything done to any animal unless the animal gives its consent….

I Just hope Mike Tyson fight them and if he wins, I hope he sues them and collects.

I haven’t had any pigeons for fifty five years (except a few rollers and a single homer several years ago), but I sure miss them.
